Franciscans in Uzbekistan

Uzbekistan lies in Central Asia. Most of its population of 25 million are Muslim. On 1 April 2005, Pope John Paul II created the Apostolic Administration of Uzbekistan, appointing the Polish Franciscan Fr Jerzy Maculewicz as the first bishop.
